Waterfalls of Oregon and Beyond

Waterfalls of Oregon and Beyond

Ah, water. It's just so...wet. The western United States has a plethora of amazing falls, and here are just a few. When photographing waterfalls I try to capture both the beauty of the location and the raw power they contain. Let me know how I did. Most of these are in Oregon, but some of the more recent ones are in National Parks.

McDowell Falls in Winter
The lighter flow in winter helped me get closer to the falls than I could last time, when I visited in spring.

Reece looks so small, doesn't he? This fall is on The Salt Creek Falls trail in the central Oregon Cascades.

I still think this part of the creek is more beautiful than the waterfall that towers 200 yards upstream.

Proxy Falls
This fall is often photographed, so I was excited to go and see it in person. It's well worth the drive up and the 1-mile loop hike through an old lava flow.

Upper Proxy Falls
Water here flows down the side of a cliff and into a pool. This pool has no outlet, but drains through lava rock that makes up the bottom.

Myrtle Falls at Mt. Rainier
Along the Skyline Trail in Mt. Rainier National Park. Even in late June snow still covers much of this area. This photo taken by my husband, Reece, and used with permission.

North Cascades Falls
I can't recall the name of these falls, but couldn't resist posting the photo anyway. North Cascades National Park in Washington isn't very well known, but the scenery is incredible.

Downed Logs At Lillian Falls
These falls lie in the virgin forest of Waldo Lake Wilderness in Oregon's Cascade Range. It's worth the backwoods drive to walk through the old growth and see these falls.

I love to hike and I love sharing my adventures through pictures. Most of my time is spent exploring the Pacific Northwest, but these past few years I've been able to travel to many of our country's National Parks.
