Sundogs

Sundogs

After some research I found out that these are called sundogs. They are formed when the sun is low and light passes through "horizontal plate crystals" that are floating through clouds "about 22 degrees' away. They can also be formed by the moon. (info from www.sundog.clara.co.uk)
